Run for Public Office

Running for public office is a time-honored tradition that goes back to the beginning of our City, more than 150 years ago. By filing for council or Mayor, you are making a pledge to the citizens of Watertown that if elected you are willing to do your best to make Watertown a better place to live.

If you are interested in running for a local office for the 2022 election, contact City hall for more information in July of 2022. The Affidavit of Candidacy (PDF) will need to be signed in the presence of a notary and submitted to the City with a $15 filing fee. If you have checked the Private Data box on the Affidavit of Candidacy form, you will need to fill out the Address of Residency Form (PDF).  Candidates will be able to file an Affidavit of Withdrawal (PDF) to have their application removed before their name will remain on the ballot.

The filing period for city offices is between Tuesday, August 2, 2022 (until 5 p.m.) - Tuesday, August 16, 2022 (until 5 p.m.).

The withdrawal deadline (if filed) can be done until August 18, 2022 at 5 p.m. 

Filing packets will be available at City Hall throughout the filing period.
