Running for public office is a time-honored tradition that goes back to the beginning of our City, more than 150 years ago. By filing for council or Mayor, you are making a pledge to the citizens of Watertown that if elected you are willing to do your best to make Watertown a better place to live.
If you are interested in running for a local office for the 2020 election, you can file between July 28, 2020 and August 11, 2020. The Affidavit of Candidacy (PDF) will need to be signed in the presence of a notary and submitted to the City with a $15 filing fee. If you have checked the Private Data box on the Affidavit of Candidacy form, you will need to fill out the Address of Residency Form (PDF). Candidates have until 5:00 PM August 9, 2020 to file an Affidavit of Withdrawal (PDF) to have their application removed before their name will remain on the ballot.
Once the election is over, each candidate is responsible for filing a Campaign Financial Report (PDF). This form must be returned to City Hall whether you win or lose.
